Mango & I Rose with the Sun
Mango and I rose with the sun this morning at the farm. I cooked him sausage, eggs, grilled bagel and cream cheese on the rocket stove as the two dogs Rio and Leal sat patiently staring at the frying pan and the rising smoke from the fire. The day was to include a cement delivery for the micro house footings and a tour of the north side of the farm to check on the length of the grass for the cows after the weeks rain. Carlos stopped by on his horse Morena just as we were finishing breakfast and said he was looking forward to the ride with us. He told us he would round a couple of horses and meet us below at the care taker Cassimiro’s house on the property.
Mango and I smiled and agreed to meet him in 45 minutes after taking care of the dishes the stove and some watering of the newly planted fruit trees. Twenty minutes later we were looking across the valley and heard the crack of Carlos whip. You could see him circle his rope above his head twice again. A time delay between the action and what sounded to us like a gunshot each time In front of him Peppy the stallion and Esperanza the Gelding moving reluctantly down the side of the hill towards Cassimiro's house and our saddles.
